Frequently Asked Questions

What is IPL?

IPL stands for 'Intense Pulsed Light' and it is a safe hair removal system used to achieve permanent hair removal. The treatment uses light to absorb melanin (the dark colour in your hair and skin). This light then converts to heat which damages the hair producing cells to impede hair growth and achieve effective and painless hair removal.

Is it safe to use?

Yes! IPL has been used for many years and is a safe & effective method for removing unwanted hair. Numerous research studies have demonstrated the safety of using IPL hair removal.

Does it hurt?

IPL treatment is painless, most users only describe feeling a warm tingly sensation on their skin when using the device

How long will it take before I start seeing results?

Most users notice reduction of hair after just 3-4 treatments. However, results vary from person to person.

How many years will this product last?

Our IPL handsets last for 150,000 flashes. This is approximately 5 years of usage.

I have red/ginger/grey/white hair, Is this device suitable for me?

IPL light is absorbed into the pigment of the hair follicle known as Melanin. For this reason, IPL will only work where that pigment is present. White and grey hair is not suitable and results would be unsatisfactory due to the absence of this pigment. IPL can be effective on red hair depending on how much brown pigmentation is present within the root of the hair, however results will vary. IPL is most effective on dark hair.

Can I use the device when I have fake tan on?

No, all fake tan or moisturisers should be removed prior to using the device, the skin should be clean and dry with no alternative products

Which areas of my body can I use this on?

You can use your handset on your entire body, anywhere below your cheekbones is fine, as pointing the light near your eyes could potentially damage your vision, for this reason we do not recommend using the device around your eyes.

Do I need to shave before using the device?

Yes, you should shave before using your IPL device, however, in order for the IPL to work the root of the hair must be intact therefore we do not recommend waxing, plucking or epilating any hair prior to use

Does IPL work for all skin tones?

IPL is suitable for all but dark skin tones. Best results are seen for those with fair skin and dark hair. IPL is not suitable for those with grey/white, natural light red or very light blonde hair, those who always wear fake tan or those who have very dark skin naturally.

Is it safe to IPL over freckles or moles?
IPL should not be used over any moles, freckles, birthmarks or areas of pigmented/discoloured skin

I have tattoos, can I still use this IPL Device?

The device should not be used on any tattooed areas of skin. The skin with the tattoo on it must be left alone as the IPL Light may affect the tattoo and could burn the skin in that area.
